Hello! I am Socorro, the English teacher in the Violet Room.
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, speaking mostly Spanish. My family also spoke English, but I finally learned English when I went to an American high school.
I went to college in New Jersey and moved to New York City after I graduated. I began teaching in the public schools, but found myself drawn to the younger children. I have completed my masters in Early Childhood Education from City College of New York, and have New York State certification for teaching.
I am delighted to be at Arc En Ciel with the younger children in the Violet Room. I believe children learn best within caring relationships with trusted adults. Respecting children is the beginning of providing excellent care. The small setting in our school ensures that children are listened to and challenged to learn something new. Encouraging children to be independent is the key to creating lifelong learners. I bring much experience in many different early education settings, and look forward to working with your wonderful children.
